My name is Mackenzie White, and I am currently a senior at Walsh University (Ohio), pursuing a degree in nursing. I am also a proud member of the women’s soccer team, continuing a passion I’ve had for the sport for the past 17 years. Before attending college, I graduated from Lake High School (Ohio), where I participated in both soccer and lacrosse. Currently, I coach their girls' lacrosse team.

While I have coached numerous soccer camps in my community, this camp (Germany) was my first time working with children who did not speak the same language as me. Despite my uncertainty, I approached this camp with an open mind and heart ready to serve. My goal for this camp was simple: to share the game I’ve loved my whole life, and, most importantly, to introduce the love of Jesus.
What surprised me the most at the camp was how deeply you can connect with someone, even when you barely speak the same language. I saw God at work throughout our time at camp, in so many powerful ways. We had kids of all different ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds come together in unity, not just to play the beautiful game of soccer, but to learn about Jesus. It was truly inspiring to watch friendships grow among the players and staff, forming bonds that went far beyond the field. The only explanation for that kind of unity and love is God’s grace at work in each moment.
On the second day of camp, we learned that the girls were having a hard time playing alongside the boys. We took some time to sit down and talk with them, and I shared a bit of my own story—how I was the only girl on my soccer team at their age and how challenging it can be. After our conversation, several of the girls told me that hearing my experience gave them the motivation and confidence to keep going. This moment reminded me why I love both the game and opportunities like this camp, because beyond the goals and the wins, it’s about uplifting others and using our stories to inspire strength in someone else.
Over the four-day camp, it was incredible to witness the players grow not just in their technical soccer skills, but also in their physical endurance and mental toughness. With so much soccer being played each day, it was no small feat for these kids to stay focused and energized. Yet, on the final day, they stepped onto the field ready to compete in three or four games, including an exciting “All-Star Game” where selected players faced off against the coaches. I was truly impressed by their dedication and the way they showed up each day eager to work hard and play the game we all love.
I’m incredibly grateful to walk away from this experience knowing that we didn’t just build friendships, we also made a lasting impact on each of the kids we had the privilege of working with.
